Bruce Wayne Drives Batmobile by night, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 by Day

Bruce Wayne Drives Batmobile by night, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 by Day -

SANT’AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy, May 6 /PRNewswire/ — When he isn’t protecting Gotham City from various villains in the Batmobile as his alter ego, Batman, billionaire Bruce Wayne’s vehicle of choice is one of Lamborghini’s sexiest super sports car ever built, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. Bruce Wayne’s newest Lamborghini can be first seen prowling the streets in the movie’s new, extended theatrical trailer shown in theatres May 2, 2008, prior to “Iron Man.”

The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Coupe is not Bruce Wayne’s first Lamborghini. The association with the marquee began in 2005 when Propaganda Global Entertainment Marketing, Lamborghini’s entertainment marketing firm for worldwide activities, brokered the deal for the Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster to make its on-screen debut in “Batman Begins.” In the film, Bruce Wayne can be seen driving the Lamborghini supercar to an exclusive party with two beautiful models in the passenger seat.

The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Coupe appearing in “The Dark Knight” is powered by a 640 horsepower 12-cylinder engine and is capable of more than 211 mph.

“The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 is the natural choice for Bruce Wayne’s other car,” stated Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “Lamborghini is proud to be associated with one of the greatest movie franchises in history, especially co-starring with the night-bound Batmobile.”

“The Dark Knight” is set to be released in theatres worldwide on July 18, 2008.

Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger (”Brokeback Mountain”) stars as arch-villain The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart plays District Attorney Harvey Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast in the role of Rachel Dawes. Returning from “Batman Begins” are Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Jim Gordon; Oscar winner Michael Caine (”The Cider House Rules”) as Alfred; and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (”Million Dollar Baby”) as Lucius Fox.

Car collector creates unique model by adding 520-hp Lamborghini engine to ‘07 Mustang

Larry Edsall / Special to The Detroit News

Take a 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo, a pair of 2007 Ford Mustangs and put them together and what do you have? If you’re car collector John Haugh, you have the Tractorri, a unique, Lambo-powered, mid-engine Mustang.

Haugh, who founded a company that produces the pigments that give color to plastics and has a collection of some 30 cars, always wanted a street car with a Formula One racing engine. But the Eastlake, Ohio, resident wanted to put such an engine into a car that no one had done before.

Intrigued with the idea of putting a Grand Prix-style powertrain inside a classic American car, Haugh considered a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air as a possible object for his automotive art. He discovered, however, that the conversion would be too complex. He also considered a late ’60s Ford Mustang fastback because the rear-mounted engine could be seen through the car’s sloping rear roof.

Because of time and availability, Haugh and his team settled on the 2007 Mustang, which also has a sloping roofline. But he found he had to get a pair of them because of the extensive modifications needed for the marriage of Mustang and Lambo. For example, Haugh and the mechanical team from Rick Roush Engineering needed four Mustang doors to create the two custom doors for the Tractorri.

Last year, Haugh hired automotive artist Darrell Mayabb of Arvada, Colo., to do design work for his car, which was built around a custom-built space frame chassis created to carry the 520-horsepower, 5.0-liter V10 engine, transmission and all-wheel drivetrain from the Gallardo and the reworked Mustang body and customized interior.

The car took 500-man hours to produce and Haugh says the powertrain retains its original Lamborghini warranty.

Lamborghini Says ‘Emissions Rules? What Emissions Rules?’

By Chuck Squatriglia EmailMay 27, 2008 | 5:20:48 PMCategories: Emissions, Fuel Economy

Lamborghini_engine

Lamborghini is known for one thing, and one thing only - absurdly fast cars. It’s been building them for almost half a century, and it isn’t going to let a little thing like global warming get in its way.

The Italian automaker says its low production - it sold just 2,604 cars last year - and reputation for high performance means it simply cannot build cars that meet coming emissions regulations in Europe. Not now, not ever.

“We will never meet the emissions that are asked for,” company CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Automotive News. What’s more, he says the cars - which average 11.6 mpg (combined city and highway) - don’t have that great an impact on the environment.

“We are selling very few cars, and our customers drive less than 5,000 miles per year, so it’s a very small impact,” he said.

Don’t look for Lamborghini to drop its V12 and V10 engines in favor of a V8, either. Winkelmann says the distinctive - some would say seductive - sounds of those big-displacement engines is as much a part of the brand’s appeal as their performance.

Automotive enthusiasts will rejoice in the thought that, in an era when Porsche is working on a hybrid and Ferrari’s experimented with ethanol, at least one exotic marque refuses to compromise. But everyone else may find Winkelmann’s stance irresponsible, and according to Motor Trend, Winklemann realizes the social acceptance - or lack thereof - of super cars is something Lamborghini must be cognizant of.

MAX MOTORS GAS OR GUN PROMO GETS BUTLER, MO CAR DEALER SOME MEDIA ATTENTION

When most people think of car safety things like airbags, antilock brakes, and steel-caged frames often come to mind. Well, the good folks down at Max Motors have something a little different in mind.

Max Motors (or,perhaps more appropriately “Mad” Max Motors) is offering car buyers a $250 credit towards their choice of gasoline or a gun. Which only makes sense because I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on a car lot and told the salesperson that everything looks great, but if he could throw in a handgun, I would sign today.

All kidding aside, Walter Moore, the General Manager of the Butler, Missouri, dealership stated that most car buyers have opted for the gun and not the gas. Moore deflects the notion that Max Motor’s offer may offend some locals by stating, “Down here, we all believe in God, guts and guns.”

Butler, MO car dealership

I’ll take it on faith that he knows his local market.

“Sometimes it takes a promotion that is a little bit daring to get attention,” said Ron Sturgeon, the owner of a company that gives car enthusiasts the chance to rent a Lamborghini or a slew of other luxury or exotic cars in Fort Worth Texas.

“I believe their promo is different enough that it could break through the clutter and get their dealership a little extra attention and if their customers perceive the incentive as adding value it may help them close an extra sale or two,” says Mr. Sturgeon.

For those in and around Butler, MO, interested in buying a car, the promotion only runs until May 31.

“So far the promo has landed them a spot on MSNBC, so people are talking and could translate into good things for an innovative local car dealer,” said Mr. Sturgeon, a small business consultant.

NEW HONDA HYBRIDS DUE TO ARRIVE IN DFW IN 2009

Many of my wife’s family members are ranchers. So being hopelessly urban, I was curious about ranching. “Ranching would be the perfect business,” my father-in-law noted, “except the darn things have to eat.”

Drivers of V8s accustomed to sidling up to the gas pump and being relieved of a small fortune can understand my father-in-law’s point perfectly.

Yet, never have so many well-made, high performance cars been available to the driving public. The problem is the darn things drink gas like John Daly drinks beer.

John Daly image

And the better the driving performance, the bigger the high-octane petrol appetite.

Fortunately, car makers are introducing new hybrids with high MPG ratings. Rising gas prices have caused Honda to become even more focused on the world hybrid market. They are taking a swipe at Toyota with the release of a slew of new Honda hybrids.

Honda is trying to catch Toyota, the leader in hybrids, by introducing four new hybrids: an updated Civic hybrid; a hybrid sport model; a new hybrid-only five-door sedan; and a hybrid version of its Fit line.

honda sport hybrid concept car image

Although they are fuel efficient, many car enthusiasts wonder if the new Honda’s will deliver an exciting driving experience. “The capability of the Tesla folks to produce an electric car with Ferrari-like acceleration makes me a little curious to see whether Honda can make a hybrid that’s exciting to drive,” says Josh Davis, a Fort Worth TX web designer.

“I wonder how much pure driving fun the Honda hybrid sport model will deliver,” says Davis. “I don’t think the Honda will compare with renting a Ferrari, but there’s no reason that a hybrid sport model can provide a day of high performance driving.”

Japan’s second largest automaker will have its work cut out for it as it races to catch Toyota. According to Shu Ching Jean Chen writing for Forbes, Honda projects that it will sell 200,000 units of its hybrids in 2009 in the global market. Toyota has already sold 1 million Priuses globally.

SOLAR POWERED CARS GETS MORE ATTENTION AS GAS PRICES CLIMB

By now everyone has heard the phrase, necessity is the mother of invention. Well, rising gas prices are certainly doing their part to create the necessity. As filling the tank almost requires getting a home loan, people are starting to look for options.

I recently read that one commuter decided to sell his car and opt for a bicycle. That may be great for him, but with a 20-mile commute, a family of four, and a home in DFW (Bicycling Magazine’s lowest rated city for bicycle friendliness), I don’t think that answer will work for me.

One idea that is intriguing is a solar powered car.

And recently there have been some interesting stories that give the idea at least a glimmer of hope. For example, one Boise, Idaho man has converted a Geo Metro into a vehicle that can be powered by solar or by plug-in recharging.

Similarly, the Nuna 2, is a solar-powered one seater that has toured most of the civilized world. What is so promising about this vehicle is that it has a top speed of 105 miles per hour.

Unfortunately, however, the problem with most of these cars is the severe limitations they face with respect to performance.

On the one hand, a Geo Metro may provide enough space for a typical driver who hauls around a kid or two and goes to the grocery store, but many converted solar cars only get up to 20-40 miles per hour. That’s not going to get it done on the interstates outside Dallas.

Additionally, while the Nuna 2 can hit high enough speeds for any automotive application short of drag racing, it is a one-seater solar pancake that has less storage space than a motorcycle.

Then there is the simple problem of trying to get people to hand over the keys to their beloved cars which often occupy roles akin to family members.

“The efficiency car movement is having problems similar to the ones faced by many performance automobile makers, how to create the special features sought by the customer while also providing some level of practicality,” states Dallas Texas exotic car club owner Ron Sturgeon.

In many ways, Sturgeon’s exotic car businesses rely on the schism between an exotic car’s performance and its practicality. “We allow customers to enjoy our garage of exotic cars without giving up the more practical commuting and family vehicles,” notes Sturgeon.

Sturgeon’s Dallas Texas exotic car club offers members the chance to share a garage of exotic and luxury cars. “For drivers looking to experience the driving pleasure of an exotic car without the hassles of depreciation, maintenance, and storage – a car sharing club is an ideal solution,” says Tom Warren, GM of the DFW-based car club.

Sturgeon also owns a company that rents exotic cars in Dallas. When I feel the need to drive a dream car like a new 2008 Viper or 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo, DFW Elite Auto Rental is the perfect place to find quality luxury rental cars in Dallas, TX.

With continued technological advancements and the power of high gas prices to motivate creative solar car builders, we might just be able to find a practical solar car that will be fun to drive.

Smart Car Destined to Be Popular with Commuters in DFW

Not only is the new Smart Fortwo a fuel-sipping and affordable statement car, it has just received high marks in safety tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested the Smart Car for front-end and side impact and determined that the micro car is as safe as any other vehicles in its class, despite being the smallest car on the road.

“Safety is key,” says Ron Sturgeon, owner of a Dallas exotic car rental company. “Producing a microcar that gets good marks from the IIHS is an achievement,” continued the luxury car rental company owner.

Sturgeon’s exotic car rental company has a microcar from another era when consumers were feeling the squeeze. In Europe of the 1950s, the 1959 BMW Isetta provided inexpensive transportation to Europeans rebuilding from WW II. Some auto historians credit brisk sales of the Isetta with saving BMW from bankruptcy.

A Dallas-area resident who owns one of the new Smart Fortwo vehicles shared some of her observations in an article on KLTV. Lynne Souerby bought her micro car from a Dallas auto dealership.

Smart car image

“I just saw the car,” says Souerby, “and I thought, ‘I want one of those.’ They just look fun. I’ve been getting about 38 miles per gallon.”

Fuel economy is the major selling point of the Smart Car, but drivers also love the statement they make by driving a unique car.

“I can be at a stop light and drivers will honk their horn and I’ll look up,” says Souerby. The Smart car owner reports, “They’ll say, ‘Hey great car!’ or ‘What’s the gas mileage?’”

“Exotic cars make an impression,” says Sturgeon. “Nothing turns heads like driving a Ferrari or Lamborghini, and it’s fun to drive a car that gets you a little extra notice. I’m sure that’s part of the appeal of the new Smart Car,” said the Tarrant Country luxury car rental company owner.

The crash test results for the Smart Fortwo are going to be a major selling point to consumers who were concerned about getting behind the wheel of such a small vehicle.

“I feel very safe in my Smartwo,” says Souerby. “It has airbags on the side and airbags in the front. I’m very careful where I drive and how I drive. I always have my lights on and I always make sure that a semi- truck on I-20 knows that I’m there,” reports Souerby.

The Smart Car retails for just under $14,000 and has an eight-gallon tank. Learn more about it at http://www.smartusa.com.

Hot Cars

2005 Koenigsegg CRR On February the 28th 2005, at 12.08 local time, the Koenigsegg CCR broke the production road car speed record, achieving a new official top speed of 387.87 km/h (242.14 mph) at Italy’s Nardo Prototipo proving ground.

With this verification of speed, Christian von Koenigsegg is even more confident that the Koenigsegg CCR is capable of reaching its projected top speed of 395 km/h, or more, in a straight line.

Driver Loris Bicocchi was very impressed by the performance of the car. He feels happy to finally prove the performance of the Koenigsegg. “This test was very important for the customers and owners of Koenigsegg cars. It proves that their belief and faith in the small Koenigsegg Company was well founded”.

 2005 Ford GT

Retailing at $139,995, the GT has a long, sleek design with great lines, which means that this car will look great just standing still, but even better zooming by. It’s available in the U.S., so if you can come up with the cash, it’s all yours. Just be sure you save enough money to pay for speeding tickets.

 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR

With a hefty price of $418,000 and a sleek, retro design, the Mercedes SLR has a hand-built 5.5-liter V8 engine, pumping out over 600 horsepower and, according to Mercedes, can go from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 207 miles per hour.

The sheer speed on tap in the SLR is great, but better still is its use of Formula 1 technology, notably in the body. The SLR is made of carbon fiber composite, strengthening it and providing a safer ride for the driver.

 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo

With a retail price of $165,900, Lamborghini Gallardo is a 2-door, 2-passenger luxury sports car.

The Italians love curves on their women and their cars, and the futuristic-looking Gallardo is no exception. The extreme curves on the roof make the car look like it could fire off the line at any moment.

You won’t find the Gallardo’s 500-horsepower, 5.0-liter, V10 engine on American streets just yet. But even if you could, you still might have trouble catching it with the naked eye — the top speed of this baby is just over 190 miles per hour.

Shelby GT 500 Eleanor Story

The coolest Mustang of them all is the Shelby GT500 Eleanor, that featured spectaculair in Gone in Sixty Seconds. A lot of Americans fel in love with this machine like Nicolas Cage in the movie and had a Mustang transformed into an Eleanor. Now there is one in Holland.

IT ALL STARTED with the poster. On the wall at graphic designer Frans’ house in North Holland. A movieposter of Gone in Sixty Seconds, with Eleanor lively in picture and not Angelina Jolie, a correct choice. Frans had nothing with Mustangs, but in the years this poster was on the wall a passion grew that was not to be ignored. And also his wife Yvonne slowely got the Eleanor-virus.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE the pictures that impressed you at youth, these can nest in your subconsciousness and develope into a passion. So it seems to be with Frans. Here’s why: the first version of Gone in Sixty Seconds was made in 1973, and Frans watched that a couple of times. And also in this a Mustang played an important role, a Mach 1. That film was made by Toby Hálicki, who not only wrote the script, but also directed it and played a leading role. The man also took care of the stunts. The movie was about a gang that had to steel 48 vehicles for a “customer”. All the cars had been given girlsnames to misled earsdroppers. The Mustang was listed under the name of Eleanor. The film finishes with one of the longest and most spectacular pursuits ever filmed, where Eleanor makes a jump of dozens of meters. It took more than seven months to get that part of the movie well on the celluloid and it seems 93 cars were driven to scrap. A beautiful score for a regisseur/actor who started his carreer as a junkman. In spite of the fact that there where some errors in the chronology - just like in Bullit - and in spite of initially bad criticisms, the film was a success. It’s been brought out on DVD again.

IT DIDN’T ENDED well with Toby. At the making of a continuation movie, Gone in Sixty Seconds II - The Slicer, he planned a scene in which a watertower should fall. To make this happen at the correct moment, one of the steel legs on which the water tank stood was cut. Unfortunately the watertower collapsed to soon and fell exactly on… Toby Halicki. A continuation has come eventual, at least a remake, under control of Jerry Bruckheimer (also responsible for top gun) and with Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and of course a Mustang in the lead. This time not a Mach 1, but an older Shelby GT500 (1967). Especially for this film Cinema Vehicle Services developed a bodykit to give the car enough attitude to put it above the Porsches, Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s. This adjusted Eleanor had such an impact that it has been reconstructed several times in the U.S. Not on the basis of an original GT500 (that would be a sin, because those are collectors items), but with an ordinary Mustang as a donor. A Mustangdealer in Texas has made it into a business. He took over the prints from Cinema Vehicle Services and started to make the bodykit in serial. Under the blessing of Carroll Shelby, the dealer will even (in association with cobra builder Unique performance) produce a serie of 400 ready-to-rumble Eleanors.

FRANS WAS ONE of the first to visit the remake of Gone in Sixty Seconds and after several years of staring at the poster he made up his mind. He is a car-enthusiast (drove a Porsche 928, Nissan 200SX and Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4) and decided to put everything aside for his very own Eleanor. I sold my Mitsubishi, from then bicycled to the office and searched the internet for months. In November 2004 I found a real nice Eleanor on Ebay. A really serious candidate. The owner even had a website on which i could see how the car was developed in his task. After looking at the more than hundred pictures i was convinced, this one i had to have. I immediately pressed the Buy It Now button. Not a moment to soon so it appeared, because there were already far-reaching negotiations with someone in New York. The car was on Ebay for only eleven hours. On February 14 2005 the Mustang was delivered at Frans’ home in a container. He removed the sealing and there she was: Eleanor. “without a scratch, a little dusty, but even more beautiful than in the movie”, said Frans. On April 12 the GT500 was approved by the Dutch RDW and with that the first Eleanor in Holland was street-legal.

TIME FOR A RIDE with the beast, which looks mighty impressive due to the big bult on the hood, under which is a Holley-carburator as large as a camping cooker. This warrior-appearance is also being contributed by the new frontbumper, with an extra grille and two modern, small lights. Visual appearances are reinforced by the two extra lamps in the nose, the sideskirts, the sidepipes and the spoiler on the reardeck, all elements of the Eleanor bodykit. Under the hood there’s not the 428 V8 that belonged to the original GT500, but a 351 Cleveland, with which the 355 HP which where initially provided by the GT500 effortlessly is exceeded. At present a 500 HP should be at hand, but Frans want’s to install NOS, so that he can incidentally call an explosion of 800 HP. In the movie Eleanor also got NOS, but not for real. It’s only for appearances. The car has got, however, a push button on the acceleration poke with the text Go-Baby-Go to activate the NOS. I already got that one, the rest is approaching. At the moviecar the sidepipes too where only for appearances, at my Eleanor they are however the real thing. They make a serious sound too. Not warmly and dark brown, but hard and aggressive, like a NASCAR. It makes the hairs in the back of your neck spontaniously jump into line, very beautiful therefore. Although it could be a little tireding at the long run, unless you really love the sound of anti-aircraft guns.

THE PREVIOUS OWNER used its Eleanor for drag-events. Thats been proven by the clutch, the heaviest I have ever felt since the Lamborghini LM002. Extra difficulty is that it seizes all the way at the top, as a result of which you almost must lift your foot of the floor at driving away. Its difficult to dose so i it took me a couple of kilometres to drive it fluently. The interieur is standard Mustang, with some additives. Such as an enormous tachmeter on the steeringcolumn and two red buttons on the middleconsole: to awake (still to assemble) the NOS and to activate an extra fuelpump. Those are, as it happens, very necessary to obtain the maximum from the NOS. The steering is a little vage. That is not typical Mustang, but typical for an American classic with this kind of steering. I’m about to change that too; says Frans. There is a lot of stuff out there for Mustangs and that includes rack and pinion steering. With that she will handle better and also be more responsive. She will go from four rotations to three.

IN SPITE OF THE FACT the engine is enormous (approximately 5.8 litre), it’s a little cammy, this means: it must make a certain number of revs to really produce power. Below that, it somewhat rumbles and it takes some time to get the pace. But then it goes. I don’t want to hurt Frans’ love, therefore no burn-outs and all, but i may put the pedal to the metal once the machine rolls. The anti-aircraft guns increase in volume and frequency dramatically as the Mustang goes, with the intimidating unstoppability of a supertanker. Due to the hood with the bult and the enormous mouth filled with gauze, it looks somewhat like a prehistoric monster on the attack. Eleanor doesn’t feel superfast, a feeling which I recognise for example from a Viper. That’s because all the strenght is at hand constantly, without a sensational peak. As a result, you don’t feel the kick in your back, but the constant, insisting push of a fictitious giant hand. How fast you’re really going, you can see at the pace the Mustang pulls in the other traffic, from which more than regular a thumbs up is to be seen. That kick in the back wiil be there soon, when the NOS is installed. Then all Frans has to do to get launched with 300 HP extra, is push the red Go-Baby-Go button on the shifter.

AT THIS MOMENT the transmission is fairly short: at 70 miles per hour (115 kmph) the tach-counter indicates 2900 revs. At an engine with this capacity it is possible to lower that. Frans intends to do that too; instead of a drag-transmission he wants it a bit more racy. Eleanor brakes considerably well for a car from the sixties and it’s fairly easy to make it even better. There are still a lot of parts being manufactured for Mustang motorsports. You will have to apply some muscle strength to operate the brakes, but this is normal for a potent American from that time: except for the steering all the controls feel like driving a truck. As for the behaviour, you don’t want Eleanor to suprise you. As long as you can see the line it is possible to do some high speed cornering, you will be aware of the weight in front. But it doesn’t understeer. Instinctively you know that, once this animal unexpected comes in over- or understeer, you will be out of rescue options at the blink of an eye. As a result, you will even more respect the guys who provided the stunt work in Gone in Sixty Seconds. Those are heroes. Suspension, at present, still allows relatively much movement of the bodywork. Also that is something Frans wants to improve, what undoubtedly will lead to more feeling of control.

HE HAS PLANS STILL MORE: a dashboard and door panels of brushed aluminium and wheels of a ford GT40, with knock-off spinners please. “about those wheels, i’m not certain, because i also like the current Centerlines”, so he says, an opinion i entirely share with Frans. Frans makes use of the services of Katella Classics (of peter Onken, a man with experience in dragracing) in Beverwijk, to get Eleanor into a state of true perfection.
Frans is not planning on keeping Eleanor all to himself in everyway. He wants to take his beauty to shows and all. He who wants to see her with his own eyes, put down September 3 and 4 (2005!) in your agenda. Then the first Dutch Shelby GT500 Eleanor comes to Palace ‘t Loo in Apeldoorn, as one of the stars of “AutoVisie 50 years” jubilee-exposition.
